London: Christmas hype in Hyde Park

Hyde Park Wonderland 2

Hyde Park Winter Wonderland
When: November 20th – January 3rd (10am – 10pm)

Recently I had the chance to take a sip of Christmas spirit in London – as I had planned a day in the capital before leaving the UK. Or not really planned, because I like to go-with-the-flow when it comes to exploring big cities. But I know a city like London goes all in on the Christmas hype, and I wanted to check out the Winter Wonderland in Hyde Park.

So, despite grey skies and Hyde Park Wonderland 1ever-growing puddles, I set out to explore on foot. Camera in one hand – umbrella in the other. And I didn’t get disappointed.

My shoes were soaking wet as I reached the corner of Hyde Park, but thousands of flickering lights made me forget it all and enter this spectacular maze of entertainment. Firstly, it’s hard to believe that this is just a temporary thing, because it spreads out like a proper theme park, with hundreds of rides and attractions – divided in different zones. The ground is cleverly covered in metal plates, to avoid an infinity of a muddy mess.

You might even get lost among ice palaces, roller coasters and Swiss cottages. And look out for the ice skating rink, the water fall and my favourite – The Bavarian Village, where a giant German in ‘lederhosen’ sings for you.Hyde Park Wonderland 6

Besides, there are millions of bars and restaurants – and enough entertainment to spend a whole day. There is even a circus and daily concerts. It’s absolutely free to enter and have a walk around, but naturally costs if you wanna try any rides. Just change your cash for tokens.

If you find yourself around London before January 3rd – you should definitely check out the wonders of Hyde Park.
